NBA: Is Dwight Howard Worth the Drama? Stuck
Posted on July 2, 2012 at 02:56 PM.

Another day and another Dwight Howard trade request. Oh wait, he didn't request a trade, no he did to Los Angeles...scratch that he only wants to play for Orlando. WAIT! It's Brooklyn or bust now.

Any sensible sports fan that has remotely followed Howard's saga over the last couple of years has got to be fed up by now. And what about those fans in Orlando? Are you still going to cheer for this guy if he is wearing a Magic jersey when the season begins once again?

Howard was once known as one of the good guys in the NBA. He seemingly always had that bright smile on his face and was loved in just about every arena in the country.

"Superman" has now seen his reputation, credibility, and popularity fall from the sky.

Statistically speaking Howard would be a great addition to any team. He has a career average of 18 points and 13 rebounds; but what kind of chemistry would he bring to your team?

On the surface it appears Howard has put the Orlando franchise in a state of disarray. He is blamed by many for the firing of Stan Van Gundy, and his temper tantrums off the court has put a stronghold on the progression of the Magic as they attempt to accomplish their goals.

In addition to all of the Howard's theatrics, many people also forget he is recovering from back surgery.

I guess we should be used to this by now. Professional athletes are completely out of tune with reality.

Would you be excited if Dwight Howard demanded a trade to your team?

I don't know, actually. First of all, no one would announce that they want to come to the Pistons. Also, you would have to prepare to see other guys go. Since it's the Pistons, I'd be glad to see some guys go.

I live here in Orlando and can say that he will not win a title as the lead man. He hasn't done the necessary work to get as good as he could possibly be. Sad when you think that he has worked with Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Oluajuwon(sp). But to answer the question, no, he is not worth the drama. But good luck to any team that thinks they are going to be able to talk this guy into signing long term if he doesn't get traded. The Nets certainly do not have the assets to trade for him. If I'm the new coach of the Magic, I sit him for the whole year and don't play him one minute. Tell him to keep "rehabbing" in LA.

Nope. Even if my team needed help a center (which they do) I still wouldn't want him on my team simply because of this act he has put on. While his production value is through the roof who's to say that he will go without winning a title for three more years and do the same thing.

People love to point out Lebron and how he left Cleveland but he was a free agent, Dwight is making demands and honestly has no pull whatsoever because he is signed to the Magic for one more year. His immaturity is beginning to show and if he wanted to leave Orlando that bad he should have never signed the extension. Be a man and stick with your decision he should have just played this year out and just joined the FA market next summer. IMO

Every team needs Dwight Howard. No fan wants Dwight Howard.

Howard is a crybaby on and off the floor. On top of that he alone will not help a team win a title. He needs to join another superstar just to have a shot. I wouldn't risk the sink for him unless I was the Lakers or Mavs.

He'll probably end up in LA anyway

D12 is just ridiculous!!! If i remember right he wanted to leave the magic beacuse they are not good enough to win it all. They axed a pretty good coach with Van Gundy, ok if they sign Shaw they will have a good replacement here.
BUT is Howard really thinkin the Nets will be the team to get a ring???
Even if they sign D-Will+ Kidd or Nash, getting via trade Joe Johnson i'll really doubt this!
I mean to get Joe Johnson they probably have to trade Crash Wallace, Brooks and some other guys and like lone_wolf74 posted i also think Howard is just a good support guy a 2nd option player for a team and not a lead guy!

So happy that he will have to deal with a great GM in Orlando now who is from the Spurs a team never spent so much on people and are really succssesfull the way they runnin this franchise....i would lmao if the Lakers are sooo stupid to trade for Howard a loosing a great player with Bynum for a guy who only wants to play for Brooklyn.....

I don't want him on my team at all ... I like Joakim Noah

D12 got a GREAT Body going for him...not much else...thats the difference between him and Hall-of-famers like Shaq, David Robinson or Karl Malone...and he's no leader...leaders are on the court in the crunch...not hidden by their coaches on the bench like DH

Not even worth a max deal to me, much less to trade half the team just for the right to pay him a max. He still hasn't evolved an efficient post game, and you can't even have him on the floor at the end of games b/c of his horrid FT shooting.

I think what worries me most is just his complete lack of maturity and direction. I really don't think the guy even understands the business side of all this, otherwise he wouldn't continue to put himself in these unrealistic trade scenarios. He should have just opted out and signed with whomever he wanted. Look at the Carmelo to NY deal as the precedent here. They had a rising team with good chemistry, and gave it up to put all their eggs in one ball hogging basket. It makes more sense as a business/commercial decision than it does as a basketball decision.

Regarding the "back injury", I'm still not sold on that considering the circumstances.

Dwight Howard needs to be with someone who can dominate the game late. Much like a Kobe. Put D12 on the line and he's going to miss at least half his shots. After how many years in the league and he's still not a dominant low post player? I'm not buying the all he needs is a point guard talk. He's never played with a true one for one. The offense has always been feed Dwight or kick out for a 3. He's never been in a fluid offense where the ball is dominated by a guard. The Hawks knocked him out two years ago using scrub centers. If he follows Deron, who'll guard LeBron? Teams have showed they can put average defenders on Dwight and he can't do much. Or he might do too much, so much to the fact that the rest of the offense becomes unhinged around him. My book on him, great defensive player. Offensively, once his athleticism goes, so does he. He won't age gracefully because he's lacking a great low post game. He relies too much on his amazing athleticism. Magic should let him go.

In a word, no.

Well I'm a Bobcats fan so... yes, I would like for him to want to come to Charlotte...

His issue, is he wants to be liked. he's wishy-washy. Wishy-Washy deosnt win championships. he just need to be more assertive in hios decision making. Be true to himself and the rest will fall into place. If he stays in the Eastern Conference, he probably wont get to a championship for another 3/4 years. unless he signs with a legitimate contender- Miami, Miami, or Miami.
His best bet is taking his talents out west. The road to the championship will still be a dog fight, but at least he'll more than likely end up on a roster with another tier 1-elite player.

he has definitely become one of the most annoying players in the NBA.
